✈️ Arrival in Montego Bay & First Impressions
Sangster International Airport was our entry point into Jamaica, and from there we headed to Excellence Oyster Bay for our stay.
After landing, we made our way through immigration and customs and entered the main arrivals hall, where rows of transfer and hotel desks are set up. It was easy to find our transportation, and within minutes we were on our way—enjoying a smooth, scenic 30-minute ride to the Excellence Oyster Bay resort.
🏝️ Splurging on a Beach Villa
Since this trip was to celebrate our 20-year anniversary, we decided to splurge on one of the resort’s private beach villas—and it was absolutely worth it.
We were greeted with a private check-in experience and then escorted to our villa by golf cart, where our butler welcomed us. A personalized “Happy Anniversary” sign on the door was such a thoughtful touch and set the tone for the entire stay.
The villa itself was incredibly spacious, featuring:
- A large living room with a fully stocked bar
- A huge master bedroom and bathroom
- A private pool and direct beach access
It was stocked with wine, beer, liquor, soda, and snacks—so we truly felt like we had everything we needed without ever leaving.
🍽️ Dining & Relaxation
Honestly, the villa was so beautiful that we spent most of our time there. We ordered room service for many of our meals and just soaked in the peaceful, private atmosphere.
We did venture out a couple of nights for dinner:
- Caribbean Grove (Jamaican) – our favorite
- Spice (Asian) – a close second
- Magma (Continental) – good, but a bit overrated for us
For the most part, though, this trip was all about relaxing—whether it was lounging by our private pool or enjoying the beach just steps from our villa.
🌌 Unique Experiences
One of the highlights was visiting the Luminous Lagoon, one of only a handful of bioluminescent bays in the world. At night, the water glows an electric blue when disturbed—it’s such a surreal experience. Some people jumped in to fully experience it, but we were just as happy watching from the boat.
We also tried the complimentary hydrotherapy circuit, which rotates you through jets, waterfalls, and a sauna. It was fun (and honestly pretty funny) as a couple—especially since the water was freezing and had us laughing the whole time.
And of course, we treated ourselves to a couples massage, which was incredible.
🚲 Little Touches That Made It Special
Our villa also came with bikes, so we took a ride around the resort to explore a bit—but we mostly kept to ourselves and enjoyed the privacy.
The butlers truly made the experience unforgettable:
- Surprise anniversary towel art and decorations
- Fresh daiquiris brought right to us on the beach
- A beautiful, private dinner set up on our deck
💭 Final Thoughts
Overall, this was an amazing trip and such a special way to celebrate our anniversary. The beach villa was absolutely worth the splurge for the privacy, service, and overall experience.

- Beach villas are perfect if you want privacy and a more intimate, luxury experience
- Beach suites are a great middle-ground option
- Private pool rooms work well if you’re more social and don’t mind being around others
For us, this trip was all about relaxing, disconnecting, and celebrating—and it couldn’t have been more perfect. 🌴✨
